WORKS OF ART AS ASSET INVESTMENT CATEGORY ASSETS ALTERNATIVE AND THE SUBJECT OF THE SERVICES FROM THE SCOPE OF WEALTH MANAGEMENT

Summary/Abstract: The instability of global financial markets results in the growth of popularity of alternative investments, especially among works of art. Being in a group of objects that have timeless value, they support the building process of an optimal investment portfolio, they are also resistant to phenomenon of inflation, they create owner’s image and - in combination with traditional instruments – they have a potential to generate relatively high rates of return. The purpose of this publication is to show the essence and potential of works of art in the context of wealth management services and to show them as assets that belong to emotional investments. Based in the literature of the subject and available branch reports, the analysis of the global and Polish auction markets of works of art in the years 2010-2013 was made
