Summary/Abstract: The evaluation of local government units’ activities and the economic security of the region should include the social and economic factors shaping the units’ potential in the region. The financial resources are the basis for all local government units’ actions and the main condition for carried activities. They determine the commune’s development and are the expression of economic development potential. The methods of multivariate statistics, allowing for determining the synthetic measure, are applied in order to evaluate the effectiveness of local government, its financial economy and economic security. It requires taking into account many variables, selection of which may significantly influence the gained results and the possibilities of using the synthetic index for the inter-regional evaluations of various countries. Such an approach allows for the evaluation of a district by means of one value and for arranging the analysed data according to the phenomenon.
