Summary/Abstract: The article presents the original text and translation of a diary, led in 1881-1882 by a Bulgarian pupil at the American College of Girls at Constantinople. The diary is preserved in private family archive and provided by Elenka Dimitrieva-Encheva’s heirs (1862-1939). Born in Shumen, after graduation, she lived in Varna, married to a famous politician, directed two of her daughters to the ACG and was a member of various charity societies. The diary, written in English, testifies to accepted Anglo-Saxon tradition. Its content is focused on the life of pupils in the College, the relationship with their teachers, the intimate reflections, and the experiences of young girls. The diary of Encheva is an important source for Bulgarian history and for the early history of the College. It is also one of the first models for domestic female memoirist prose - representative of its genre form and among few issues, written in a foreign language.
