Summary/Abstract: The archaeological site of Cârlomănești – Cetățuia is located 13 km north-west of Buzău, in the outskirts of Cârlomăneşti village, commune of Verneşti. The site is located on a oval, rather irregularly shaped plateau, known to the locals as „Cetăţuia” (The fortress). On its western and northern sides the plateau is separated from the high terrace of the Buzău riverby natural gills; on its eastern and southern sides there are steep slopes, 25 m higher than the plain below. This plateau, spreading over ca. 7,500 sqm was intensely inhabited during the Bronze Age and Dacian times (2nd-1 st centuries BC), save perhaps for short interruptions. During the 2014 excavations, research continued in the southern area of Cetățuia plateau, in two areas known as V1aN and V2bS. 25 new features were exposed in the two above mentioned areas: 21 pit features and 4 hearths. The research was resumed in other 24 features exposed in the previous years, mostly pits. Only a part of them were completely investigated. In area V1aN were investigated 20 new features (16 pits and 4 hearths) and 14 features exposed earlier (Cpl 35 and 13 pits) were continued. Cpl 35 represented the remains of a rather impressive construction destroyed by fire. Although its eastern and southern limits exceeded the excavate area, its measured dimensions (6 x 4 m) are quite significant. A rather problematic feature was exposed in area V2bS. Having the appearance of a large pit (3.80 m x 3.20 m), its depth (measured from its mouth) of 2.5 m makes its function as a sunken hut very unlikely. Although initially it was used for extracting clay, we cannot exclude use a storage pit at a later date.
