Summary/Abstract: The fortress from Târcov is located at thirty km north-west from Buzău city, in a mountainous area, on an inaccessible ridge shaped like a spindle, at 735 m altitude. The dominant position is elevated above the Valley of Buzău River, providing the site with a great significance as military point. Morphologically speaking, the site is composed out of two distinct units: an acropolis-plateau - 160 m in length and a succession of three terraces, from which at least two were fortified with a wood and stone wall. The access from the plateau towards the terraces was done on a narrow saddle measuring only two-three m in width and 100 m in length. The 2014 archaeological survey had the following objectives: extending excavations on Terrace 2 in order to identify and investigate other archaeological features, completing the investigations in trenches S8 and S12 on Terrace 1 and trenches S10 and S13 on the Plateau. On Terrace 2 we opened two new trenches: S16 (6 x 3 m) and S17 (10 x 2.5 m). Only S17 was finished, the layer without archaeological traces being found at 0.40/0.50 m depth. Trench S2 was extended towards north with 4 more meters. 19 archaeological features were researched during 2014, from which 16 were newly identified. Among these recently identified ones, 15 were garbage pits, post holes or small depressions, a single feature representing the remains of a burnt dwelling. Regarding chronology, 15 features belonged to the Dacian period and one to the Bronze Age. Among the features identified before, we researched during 2014 survey, the pit 50, the half-dug dwelling 49 and a massive agglomeration of burnt clay walls – feature 36.
