Summary/Abstract: A new and different world, hitherto unknown, has begun to emerge in many districts of certain European cities, in a tendency that dismays and often shocks their native populations. Immigrants living on the outskirts of the secities, and pushed to the margins of society, create their own states within states, where integration processes are non-existent. This paper deals with the problems of national identity and analyzes the emergence of invisible/visible ghettos and borders on the basis of contemporary Slovenian and European literature.
