Summary/Abstract: Pranas Dovydaitis (1886-1942) was a Catholic intellectual and a Vytautas Magnus University professor (1922-1940) who aspired to improve society's scientific appreciation by establishing a few scientific magazines and by publishing in Lithuania after the 1918 declaration of independence (after studying in Moscow for six years and working in the Viltis editorial office). Dovydaitis was sophisticated, as he could also deal with Western scientific literature. The range of topics of his articles was quite wide, religious science, philosophy and natural science, but in all his articles some synoptical-historical interest could be found. The topics of primitive man and culture were one of his priorities. The theocentric outlook nurtured by the author is also expressed in his publications; however, it did not keep him from retaining a practical tolerance with regard to dissentients, especially in the area of natural science.
