Summary/Abstract: The key role played by scholarly publishing in the academic institutions can be amplified by the implementation of open access eScholarship repositories as a partnership between the institution and its academic community. These institutional repositories will allow open access to scholarly work and wider dissemination of knowledge. In this article we will review some of the requirements and challenges encountered by the higher education institutions in the implementation of their eScholarship repositories. The case of TSpace, University of Toronto’s (Canada) eScholarship repository, will be used throughout the article to illustrate some of the issues discussed.
