Summary/Abstract: The role of a special library is mainly to provide the materials, services and research support required by the organization that houses the library. Therefore, special librarians collect and organize materials focused on those subjects. To illustrate how the particulars of the parent organization dictate many aspects of a special library’s activities and resources, we will use two examples: the Environment Canada Library Downsview, which serves the Environment Canada department of the Government of Canada, and The Great Library of The Law Society of Upper Canada, which is a law library.
