Summary/Abstract: Criticism inspired by Derrida’s deconstruction and the main theories by Paul De Man and the Yale School introduced the issue of the limits of literary interpretation in the context of postmodernity. As a result, over the past decades, the attention of literary hermeneutics (Abrams, Eco, Culler, etc) has been focused on the difference between the positive understanding of the literary work and all the overinterpretations, susceptible, unlike forced and abusive readings, to reaching a critical consensus. The present article reviews the main arguments in this discussion and gives some possible explanations and alternatives that go beyond interpretative relativism, regarding a new hermeneutical paradigm in the 21st century.
