Summary/Abstract: Dumitru Radu Popa’s novel portrays an overt parable about the establishment of the Communist regime in Romania and its citizens’ resistance strategies. Within a (para)referential scenario, juxtaposing veridical episodes (their ‘true to life’ effects are enhanced by autobiographical insertions) and miraculous ones, a special History is narrated, made up of different quasi-autonomous stories brought together – in the narrative structure – by the authorial intention that carries out the idea of resistance, embedded in the semantic mechanism of parable, which functions at the level of discourse.
