An Anlysis of Cervantes' Dramatic Art

Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyse a set of literary and dramatic techniques that are used by Cervantes in his theatre plays (comedy, tragedy, and entremés) which together form the theatre of characters. Cervantes’ artistic technique stemming from classical works is most akin to the genre of tragedy, but he often used theatrical elements which broke the classical models and the Italianising trend in the comedy, in addition to a narrative thread that runs through all his entremés.
