Summary/Abstract: The main intention of this paper is to clarify the specific ways in which public enterprises can contribute to competitiveness, both nationally and in the European Union, and to define more precisely the specific challenges that the competition policies and institutions face in this area. The paper is oriented towards presenting the significance of competition law and policies in the rules of competition, defining the structure and content of the legislative and institutional framework and also the activities of public enterprises and competition law in the European Union and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The paper refers to their effectiveness and impact, not only on competitiveness on the EU internal market, but also on competitiveness of the EU at the global international level and, ultimately, on the BiH economy, especially keeping in mind the aspirations of our country regarding accession to the European Union. A concise overview is also given regarding the importance of public-private partnerships, projects and cooperation between the public and private sectors, in a continuous and high-quality provision of service, and their usage in the democratisation of the country, improving the living standards of citizens, etc.
