Summary/Abstract: The Transnistrian conflict, which at present is a frozen conflict, started in 1989. The Transnistrian separatists announced the independence of the “Transnistrian Moldovan Republic” (TMR) on august 25, 1991. Up to this time, the international community has not recognized Transnistria as an independent State; it is internationally recognized as an integral part of the Moldavian teritory. In this complicated situation, where a territory, which unilaterally declared independence, is not internationally recognized as a State, it cannot become a party to the international treaties. Moreover, the State which has jurisdiction over that territory and does not have any effective control over it. In this situation, it is necessary to set up who and to what extent has the obligation to protect that territory and who bears the responsibility for violations of the rights and rules laid down in international documents and the generally recognized principles of customary international law on this territory. Due to the existence of a contingent of peacekeepers in the territory of the Republic of Moldova, more specifically in the Transnistrian, I found it helpful to carry out this study. Through this paper, given the existence of a large number of research and studies on Transnistrian conflict, I intend to examine, briefly, the evolution of the conflict and the status of the region, and finally to formulate a personal opinion on this theme.
