Summary/Abstract: The following article deals with comparative characteristics of the manifestos pertaining to the key literary schools in Russian literature: traditionalism, postmodernism and the “new realism”. The influence of postmodernism is sufficiently notable in contemporary literature; nevertheless, the mid-90s saw an active search for a different language and ideals. For that reason, the comparative analysis of literary manifestos has great relevance; it allows for presenting the activities of key associations and areas with clarity and declarative disclosing as well as shows the contradictory palette of newer literature. If we accept that “the fundamental difference between art schools and styles is in relation to God, the world and man”, then, as we speak about manifestos, we, in fact, speak of perception and transformation of the key values of existence in different cultural periods. The analysis of the manifestos demonstrates that the “new realism” (as one of the most discussed areas of recent Russian prose) combines the elements of postmodernist poetics with key themes and ideas of traditionalism, while the personal authors’ myths are based on the laws of Masscult.
