Summary/Abstract: This article concerns the communication between a teacher and a pupil, which is often disrupted by multiple communication barriers. This work includes the classification of barriers which are reflected in a conversation between an adult and a child. The causes and effects of such difficulties in the communication process are also included.Following along with the development of civilization – transferring communication to the virtual space and new technologies’ fascination with slang – modern communication difficulties can be observed. In order to improve the quality and effectiveness of communication with a young person, the teacher needs to practice the principles of active listening, as well as dialogue filled with acceptance, trust, honesty and openness.A modern teacher has to remember that learning about the whole world, relations, behavior, other people, etc. at school is an important time both for the teacher and the child. Students appreciate cooperative conversation, rather than domineering teaching styles reliant on shouting and institutionalized authority.
