Summary/Abstract: Polish law defines a child by setting an age limit when it becomes an adult. Similar distinctions are used in international legal acts, but also some other factors are added, such as consciousness of a child, maturity, or level of understanding the reality. Those factors – with some exceptions – are not present in our legal acts. Though, an interesting institution in Polish regulations, is the lack of consistency in defining the age limit at the same level in all legal acts. We can observe one regulation in civil code, the second in criminal one, and yet another one in, for example, medical law regulations. Such inconsistency might cause legal problems, but, mostly, practical consequences for a young person. The article focuses on comparing three branches of law mentioned above, with special emphasis on judgmental permission to marriage of a minor(s), criminal regulation of age of consent, a right to health, a right to medical information and a right to conscious consent of a child. By showing these differences, the author intends to stress out a complex legal position of a child with selected practical implications of the regulations.
