Summary/Abstract: Children and youth in Poland have various possibilities for gleaning knowledge regarding their own sexuality, as well as ways and methods for protecting themselves from the inappropriate behaviours of others. Apart from education at home or school, in most countries there is also the option of obtaining specialist counselling provided by members of the medical professions. In Poland the scope of such counselling is significantly restricted, and minors have little access to it. The article analyses the legal scope of sex education available to pupils in schools, as well as the options for obtaining individual advice regarding reproductive life and health from a general practitioner or a specialist physician such as a gynaecologist or urologist. It compares regulations in Poland to the standards in Europe in this regard, as well as selected solutions applied in other countries. The paper provides recommendations regarding the modification of Polish law aimed at guaranteeing minors with access to a broad range of solutions and options facilitating the acquisition of reliable, authentic and comprehensive knowledge on sexuality and its protection.
