Summary/Abstract: The francophone Maghrebine literature is part of a complex historical juncture, which makes it difficult to define properly. French colonization led many North African writers to reflect on issues about cultural identity in crisis and on cultural encounters initiated by the French colonizing processes. This cultural contact, however, gave rise to a diversity of literary production whereby the cultures of the region oriented, and in times disoriented, the works of these writers. This paper attempts to rethink the North African literature, including Morocco, inscribed within the colonial turn initiated by the French civilizing mission. We propose to demonstrate, through a multidisciplinary study, the historical context from which this literature emerged, we also propose to reflect on some aspects and recurring themes in cultural encounters in the Maghreb, especially the choice of the language of the colonizer by these authors to shed light on the culture of origins.
