Summary/Abstract: The article provides summary of the author’s many years of research about the life of Baba Tonka and her family. The analysis of the secondary sources confirms the statement of her son Nikola Obretenov that his mother Baba Tonka was born in Ruse. The commerce books of her husband Tiho bring also Tonka’s economic initiatives and through her children’s correspondence we can find out private parts and other aspects of the everyday life of the legendary family. A very important but unknown detail is the latest discovered fact, that the interpreter and translator of the Russian consulate in Ruse Zahari Knyazheski lives until his death in the Obretenovi’s house and has a key role in the still obscure relations between the diplomats and the revolutionary committee.
