Summary/Abstract: The paper roughly presents several significant characteristics of adverbs from the perspective of generative transformational grammar. It is not meant as a thorough investigation of adverbs, but rather as a discussion of some issues which serve the purpose of the present study. Therefore, the paper analyses and classifies adverbs into several distinct classes, primarily based on interpretative criteria.
