Summary/Abstract: This article focuses on the archaeological find (a hoard) which was excavated not far from the village of Pimenovo (Kursk Oblast’, the Russian Federation) in 2011. It contains one hundred and eighty-four denarii and some elements of a silver belt set. These denarii were minted during the reigns of nine emperors: Vespasian, Domitian, Nerva, Trajan, Hadrian, Antoninus Pius, Marcus Aurelius, Commodus and Didius Julianus; in addition, two barbarian imitations of denarii are included in the set of coins. All the denarii are considerably worn, which indicates that they were in circulation for a long period of time. The chronological structure of the hoard makes it a Type D hoard in accordance with A. Dymowski’s typology – this type of hoard is the most widespread among deposits on the territory of Barbaricum. The belt set consists of one massive, silver buckle for a sword belt and two buckles for a girdle. The find also contains eighty-four silver belt plaits. This belt set, dating to the latter half of the 5th century AD (phase D2 of the Great Migration Period), is a girdle for bladed weaponry, and looks like a set from the Volnikovka “hoard,” which was found in this area. The hoard from Pimenovo probably reflects cultural processes that occurred after the final phase of Chernyakhiv Culture.
