Summary/Abstract: In the midst of the efforts of the Bulgarian ruling circles to find and choose a new Bulgarian prince (1886–1887), the government’s envoys came across the candidacy of the German aristocrat Prince Emil von Schönich-Karolat, ready to accept the challenge. His appearance on the Bulgarian political scene is short, but almost unknown to both professionals and the general public.
