Summary/Abstract: The paper presents foreign proper names (geographical, ethnic, personal) excerpted from “Gazeta Polska w Brazylii” [“Polish Newspaper in Brazil”] published in 1893–1927. The material consists of 400 names excerpted from 500 editions of the weekly, and represents different types of adaptation to the system of language of the Polish community in Brazil. The author provides examples of various adaptation techniques, describes the origin of the analyzed names, and proposes a classification of names with respect to the type of adaptation to the language of Polish settlers.
