Summary/Abstract: This article analyzes the past and current conditions in the Black Sea region considering the following aspects: the economic and social importance of the area; the blending of many cultures, religions, and ethnicities; the occupation of Crimea by Russia; and the necessity of strengthening the eastern border of NATO in the contiguous zone of the two member states. The destabilizing activities that generate negative response, such as illegal immigration, organized crime, decrease of potential development, are amplified by perpetuating the frozen conflicts in the area. They are reason for concern at the regional and global level. In this context, we make a comparative analysis of the military vessels and combat equipment between the contiguous states which have a significant fleet. We evaluate the current and future relations of forces and present suggestions for improvements în favor of NATO members.
