Summary/Abstract: The author analyses the negotiations between Belgrade and Priština in the period from March 2011 to March 2012, the agreements concluded so far, as well as possible model solutions to the problem of the north of Kosovo. In this paper the author states the opinion that, so far, the most important agreements between Belgrade and Priština have been reached owing to compromise solutions that enabled different interpretations of the terms. That has enabled both Belgrade and Priština, in their internal political communication, to interpret things as they find appropriate. However, in the coming period the negotiators are facing much more difficult tasks, primarily the solution to the problem of the north of Kosovo. The author is of the opinion that this problem can also be solved, with the proviso that the future solution must have a much more solid and precise legal basis. The author is also of the opinion that the future position of the north of Kosovo could be based on a special status, and that some creative solutions to this problem can be found in the models provided by South Tyrol, the Åland Islands, Northern Ireland, Hong Kong and the two Germanys.
