Summary/Abstract: The objectives of urban and spatial planning include sustainable development and environmental protection, and are partially achieved by elaborating documents that describe the existing situation, underline dysfunctions and propose strategies to resolve them. Environmental issues, reflected în changes of land cover and use, can be analyzed using data of the European CORINE program. Advantages relate to the fact that data are freely available and usable in Geographic Information System, whilst the disadvantage is that long periods between updates makes them useful mostly at the level of the regions of development and national territory.
