Summary/Abstract: What is a word, be it uttered or written, deprived of its co(n)text ? Everything and nothing, at the same time. Everything - due to the function of the logos which realizes, in an utterance, one of its manifold virtual possibilities, by appealing to the participants’ discursive memory and to their discursive representations on the world. Àt the other end, there is its nothingness residing in a significant whose signified is nothing but a latent potentiality. Starting from this general statement, we shall analyse the place allotted to language and the way it is dealt with in the work of the contemporary French writer, Pascal Quignard.
