Summary/Abstract: The Catholic Church applies its competence in social, economic, political, cultural and other areas of society, because it concerns a human behavior, subject to the natural and divine law. The article provides an overview on the basic principles of the social doctrine and its teaching on working time. Although the social doctrine of the Church does not determine working time normatively, attention is paid to those aspects that for reasons of fairness shall decide on human dignity – length of working time, the right to a regular weekly rest comprising at least Sunday, and the right to leave.
