Summary/Abstract: It can be concluded that in the late nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century many areas of European culture, and literature where afflicted by fast and important changes. New perspectives on literary creation and especially the function poetry act whereby the tendency to experiment and come individuality to the top, have led to a loss of authority and validity of traditional versification. We have seen that many literary theorists struggled against usually well existing rules of restrictions. It can be concluded that the free verse was as a form of salvation for many authors because of its structure which offers the possibility of choice. As free verse is not limited it allows the writers to with help of graphics, rhythm and meter express their opinion.
