Summary/Abstract: Abstract. Taming combatants and ensuring plurality is essential for post-conflict democra- cies. To better understand political parties which were created by former guerrillas, I propose a greater focus on their transformation process and a comparison of their performance to other parties”. I shall take concepts from conflict studies and party politics, which put forward a societal focus on processes and actors. Methodologically, I am concentrating on small-N research design and case-oriented methods. My main cases are minority parties from Croatia and Macedonia, the SDSS and the DUI, which derive from former rebel groups. A longitu- dinal analysis, combined with process tracing, is the chosen method to see how the guerrilla networks and resources have become the foundations of the new parties. To assess their performance I have chosen to pair and compare them to their main competitors. The results will enrich the internal perspectives of state formation and peacebuilding.
