Summary/Abstract: Criticism is both an opinion and judgment of a piece of music. Contemporary music criticism cannot boast one universal unwavering formula. It has been subject to various changes in meaning as well as its functions throughout the centuries. Broad understanding of music criticism encompasses the personae of artists, their oeuvre, as well as events, institutions, phenomena and artistic processes. The presence of music criticism in culture shows its quality, as well as the quality of life led by individuals and society. Moreover, music criticism creates space for reflection on music, its place and role.
