Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to study the role of folk songs as the intentional part of Lysenko’s creativity, which implicitly embodies the basic desire of the composer in his creative and social and public life. Methodology. Methodology of the research is to apply the theory of personality. The authors use the historical and biographical methods to analyse the composer’s life and work. In addition, they use the method of structural and semantic certainty that contributes more specific studying of folk songs as the intentional element in Lysenko’s creativity. Scientific novelty. Scientific novelty of this work is to extend the idea of the importance of intentionality in musical culture, and to determine the place and role of folk songs in the creative heritage of the composer. Intuitively, Lysenko’s desire to the recognition of the identity of the Ukrainian folk music art and its introducing into the classical genre are considered as expressions of the composer’s intentions. Conclusions. The comprehension and analysis of the constant reference to the systematization of Lysenko’s folk songs allow us to suggest thoughts about the definition of folk songs as the intentional components of his classical music heritage. It is the basis of the Ukrainian national culture and defines the way of its development.
