The influence of social changes on the functions of educational institutions

Summary/Abstract: A sociological analysis of the functions of educational institutions allows to put greater emphasis upon the educational functions that emerged or gained greater importance over the years of independence in Lithuania (1990–2010). The functions have possibly been formed in response to the past and present social, economic and political forces and are generally associated with an individual’s social life and his social status. The thesis discusses the main educational features: the functions of socialization, cultural reproduction, social control and social integration.
