Summary/Abstract: Mankind stepped into XXI century, into new millennium and immediately confronted with a new challenge – economic development, technical and technological progress turned against Homo sapiens himself, depriving of his natural right to live and be granted necessary conditions, securing quality of life. Human activity became so overwhelming that it starts making impact on the nature itself, i. e. the ecological life sustaining system. Consumption of natural resources reached its critical limits, when balance of ecological system is violated and it has no opportunity survive and revive. Destruction of ecological systems leads to impure unsuitable water, impoverished soil, deforesting, polluted atmosphere. Superfluous consumption of natural and energy resources is the basic reason of natural disasters, poverty, hunger and diseases [6]. These reasons, being a huge danger for mankind, make everyone to feel restless and stimulate for immediate search of methods to avoid that. According to R. Čiegis (2002), further development of civilization, future of present and subsequent generations depends upon chosen ways and methods for solution of global problems, upon firm actions, narrowing contradictions within “individual – society – nature” system, upon new ideas on social and economical development and new attitudes that will be employed to implement them. Most countries expeditiously react upon threatening environmental changes, demands of economical and social development, aiming at satisfaction of every individual’s needs, upholding opportunities for future generations to satisfy their needs. Galkutė and others (2003), the objective of sustainable development is to secure proper life quality of an individual, to strive for social welfare and security, harmonizing wisely economical, social development and environmental issues. Harmonious development of all three elements (social, ekonomical ir ecological) is possible only in case of attempts among all social groups, searching for optimal ways and strategies to implement sustainable development. Undoubtedly, not the only one, universal or onetime way is taken here into consideration. According to R. Čiegis and others (2002), every society is able to be sustainable in its own way and period, but not a single one of them is going to become absolutely sustainable for ever. Sustainable development is concurrent to permanent change, which is related to new knowledge, individual and social values, dominating attitudes and, which is most important, to a person’s inner willingness, disposition and capability for meaningful activity...
