The concept of smart specialization on the example of the Podkarpackie region

Summary/Abstract: In the concept of cohesion policy implemented in the period 2014-2020, the idea of developing territorial “smart specialization” has an important place. The aim of the article is to discuss the concept of intelligent regional specialization and to attempt to delimit specialization in the Podkarpackie Voivodship. In addition, the article discusses the opportunities and threats for the development of regions resulting from the implementation of the smart specialization concept. The Podkarpacie region demonstrates a high level of specialization in some industrial divisions of the economy, i.e. the production of aerospace products, rubber and plastics, metal and metal products, and wood products. The implementation of the concept of intelligent specialization can provide an opportunity for regions to develop and improve their competitiveness, provided that they are properly interpreted and implemented.
