Summary/Abstract: In 1966 the Beatles made a courageous decision: at the height of their popularity, they decided to end their live concerts. After a farewell concert they took several months off not only from appearances, but also recordings and shared activities. The public speculated whether it was the end of the band, whether there were quarrels among the musicians, or a simple case of burning out. However, in 1967 the Beatles returned to the studio and recorded the most important album in rock history – “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”. Giżycki writes about the history of the album, its character, its cover, its impact on pop culture, and how it contributed to the creation of the film “Yellow Submarine”, the animated masterpiece of the director George Dunning and graphic artist Heinz Edelmann.
