Summary/Abstract: The article looks at fear and anxiety as a part of the normal development of the child and part of the psychopathological picture. R. Spitz’s., M. Klein’s., F. Tusten’s and D. Winnicott's conceptions connected with the archaic and later experiences of anxiety and fear and their function in the mental structure are being exammined. The differences between the autistic and psychotic fears are being brought forward, as well as a few elements of child hysteria, which ought to make us more vigilant when we diagnose the mental structure and the functioning of the child.
