Summary/Abstract: The evaluation of a population level of living enables to identify disproportions of conditions in which the society lives. By studying the phenomenon one can point out areas where those level are similar as well as identify threats concerning a development of a given community. Knowledge about difference in the level of living is particularly essential in the contemporary economy which is in the process of continuous economic, social, environmental and political transformation. By identifying differences in the level of living, local government authorities can make decisions that stimulate community development or prevent its recession. The aim of the study was to compare the level of living of rural and urban inhabitants in Poland. First, factors were identified which determine the studied phenomenon, which was then evaluated. Due to a complex nature of the subject of the analysis, various spheres of life were studied as equally important for evaluation. The analysis refers to the 2014 data. The TOPSIS method was applied for linear ordering of rural and urban areas of Poland. Based on the value of measures, four groups of objects for study were identified in each category. Both rural and urban areas are different in terms of the level of living. There was no compliance in the ranking positions occupied by voivodships with regard to the level of living on rural and urban areas.
