Assessment of the level of sustainable development in districts in Poland using taxonomic methods

Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper was to investigate the applicability of the spatial median of Oja and the method TOPSIS to the construction of synthetic characteristics. The multivariate Oja median was applied to the standardization of characteristics, meanwhile the marginal median and the median absolute deviation to the calculation of values of synthetic characteristics for economic, social and environmental issues by TOPSIS method. These statistics characterize large resistance on occurrence of outliers, therefore the use of positional TOPSIS method is profitable in cases when in the set of characteristics will exist the characteristics with strong asymmetry or outliers. The proposed procedure was applied to estimate the level of sustainable development in administrative districts in Poland in 2014.
