Summary/Abstract: This research aims to investigate some of the predictors of couple satisfaction. Using a dyadic approach, we verified the effects of the ideal partner and relationship standards for both members of the couple on dyadic satisfaction. In addition to the individual variables, we also used their similarity, measured by profile correlation. Previous studies have shown that optimism and the idealization of the partner have a positive influence on couple satisfaction. We also tested whether optimism and its similarity act as a mediator between ideal standards and satisfaction. Thirty‑two unmarried heterosexual couples took part in the research. The results show gender differences in some factors of ideal standards. Women reported more accentuated Warmth‑Trustworthiness and Status‑Resource standards. The predictions for women’s satisfaction were not significant. For men, we found that the partner’s Warmth‑Trustworthiness dimension (with attributes such as being understanding, supportive, thoughtful, sensitive, and a good listener) negatively predicts their satisfaction. Even if the partner’s optimism correlates positively with satisfaction and represents a significant predictor for men, the variable does not mediate the relationship between ideal standards and couple satisfaction. The results partially support the theory of interdependence in couple relationships.
