Summary/Abstract: The relevance of the chosen theme is the need to analyze beginnings of graphic art in Ukraine, with its subsequent transformation into design. The sources of study are collections of posters from Kiev museums. Theater played a significant role in the cultural life of the young Soviet Society. So there is a typographical poster assembly that not only informs about performance, but visually interprets it’s idea, content and style. Theater poster between 1917 and 1932 developed from simple playbill to multicolored lithographic sheet. Style of posters in the 1920s. is different from the pre-revolutionary printing works. The poster becomes limited to names and theater performances, names of directors and performers of the main roles. Font often reaches one third of a sheet. There is a new arrangement of the text: asymmetry comes to replace central composition.
