Summary/Abstract: In 2015 the Common Agricultural Policy was modified by introducing the so-called greening. This change consisted in making the direct subsidy part dependent on the farmer implementing agricultural practices beneficial to the climate and the environment. Due to the great flexibility of this instrument, the effect of its implementation was not fully predictable. The authors considered it an intentional verification that the change of the direct subsidy system also changed the structure of sowing in Polish agriculture. The analysis covered the years 2013-2015. As a result of the analysis it was shown that CAP reform covered small percentage of Polish farms but a relatively large area of arable land in Poland. However, farmers, contrary to previous forecasts, did not reduce the area of arable land under sowing to fulfil requirements of introduction of Ecological Focus Area. Actually the sowing area was increased at the expense of fallow land. In addition, farmers significantly increased the area of protein crops (selected legumes and feedstuffs) which could be used as an equivalent of EFA.
