Political Parties and the Multy-Party System in Croatia

Summary/Abstract: This author deals with the creation and development of political parties and the multi-party system in Croatia. The analysis is based upon the two most influential approaches to studying parties in post-communist countries: (a) the classic Rokkan (and Upset) cleavage approach; and (b) the institutional analysis. The author concludes that party development in Croatia can be understood only in the context of structural and institutional factors, which is accomplished in the afore-mentioned approaches.
