Summary/Abstract: The following article presents the results of a survey conducted among Croatian-speaking students of German studies and teachers of German with the aim of determining the level of their knowledge of classroom German. A thorough analysis of the results of the survey gave an insight into major problems in the use of classroom German. The study also reveals which specific elements of classroom language should be incorporated into institutionalized teacher education and what kind of teaching materials would be required for that purpose.
