Summary/Abstract: The most important event for the Group of Twenty (G20) is the annual summit of the leaders. The relevance of G20 derives from its success in managing world financial and economic crises (1997 and 2008). However, issues on 2017 Hamburg summit agenda were much broader and included plenty of spheres important for the international order. The authors are trying to explain why is inside G20 multilateralism still more important than bilateral interactions between great powers on the margins of the summit (in this case - the United States and Russian Federation). They make it by the review of the most significant international events that decisively influenced the summit agenda, by identifying key strengths and weaknesses of G20 multilateralism, and by the overall assessment of the success of the G20 summit in Hamburg.
