Population as a Determinant of Development of the Golemo Selo (Municipality Vranje)

Summary/Abstract: In this paper deals about the Golemo Selo, which is located 27 km north of the Vranje, in small separated geographical district Poljanica. This article embraces main characteristics of the settlement: general geographical characteristics, the development of the settlement (genesis, physiognomy and arrangement of the settlement), the origin of the population and the main demographic characteristics. With development of industry and urbanization, and with change structure of the public economy, chance of employment in not-agricultural activities, in the cities, was increased. It is caused a massive emigration of population from Golemo Selo. The departure of working-age population or reproductive-age population caused negative natural increase, and constant decrease the number of population. The negative demographic change caused reducing of many functions in this village.
