Summary/Abstract: The European Union will draw up a proposal for a new strategy for Central Asia by the end of 2019. In this context, the aim of this paper is to provide an overview of Central Asia region, consisting of five former Soviet republics: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan. The author discusses history of the region, current political situation, economy, as well as main social problems in these states.
