Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes and interprets the grammatical structures used in the realization of directive discourse function in Serbian and English. Apart from the imperative mood, directive discourse function can also be realized with present simple, future simple, declarative and interrogative sentences. Another aspect of our analysis refers to the comparison of directive structures found in the play Mileva Einstein by Vida Ognjenović with their translation equivalents. Using analytical and interpretative methods we can conclude that the translation equivalents are not necessarily their formal correspondents in these two languages.
