City of the future on the background of the sustainable development

Summary/Abstract: The main goal of the paper is to identify social, economic and environmental actions taken in cities and evaluate their compliance with assumptions of the concept of sustainable development. The examples of the development of different cities from Europe and world, and effects of their municipal politics are described in the paper. The author tried to answer the question to what extent actions taken in cities match principles of the sustainable development and whether in the future cities will become more sustainable. In order to fulfil the purpose of the article the method based on desk research was applied.
